Reactivating a Heritage
School Site

The Space

The former Loreto Primary School is a significant heritage site located in the heart of Nedlands. Spanning nearly two hectares, the campus includes former classrooms, halls, gardens and open play spaces, offering a rare opportunity for large-scale, multi-use activation.

SPACEMRKT was engaged under a site caretaker and leasing agreement with Loreto Property Pty Ltd to oversee the reactivation of the site. Since 2023, the team has curated a diverse mix of creative, educational and community-focused tenants, while managing day-to-day operations, compliance and site coordination. The scale and flexibility of the campus has allowed for layered use across multiple buildings, supporting both short- and medium-term occupancies.

The Impact

The Loreto site has become a thriving creative and production hub, supporting artists, educators, small businesses and screen industry professionals. In addition to hosting a broad mix of tenants, the site has emerged as a key base for Western Australia’s screen sector, accommodating major film and television productions including projects by Warner Bros and other leading production companies.

The activation demonstrates SPACEMRKT’s approach to adaptive reuse at scale — balancing heritage sensitivity with practical activation, and creating environments that support both creative production and long-term place potential. By bridging temporary use with future opportunity, the project has delivered ongoing cultural, economic and community value.
