The Space

Hayside Gallery is a street-facing exhibition space at 484 Hay Street, delivered by SPACEMRKT in partnership with Westbridge Funds, Human Urban, and the City of Subiaco. Part of the wider Subiaco Precinct Activation, Hayside transforms a long-vacant former restaurant into a dynamic cultural platform. Its inaugural exhibition, Tension, curated by SPACEMRKT, featured works by local artists alongside an immersive installation by Tee Ken Ng and Sohan Ariel Hayes. The gallery has since hosted ARTFORM magazine launches, creative workshops by Happy Hub Collective, a curated vintage clothing store by Sal Vage, and a growing program of exhibitions featuring emerging and established artists.

The Impact

Hayside exemplifies SPACEMRKT’s approach to creative activation, reoccupying empty spaces, amplifying cultural practice, and re-energising Subiaco’s high street. SPACEMRKT was honoured to be a finalist in the Best Main Street Place Activation – Consultant or Supplier category at the 2025 Mainstreet Australia Awards. The nomination recognised SPACEMRKT and the City of Subiaco for transforming vacant shopfronts into cultural platforms, highlighting the success of creative leasing in bringing life and vibrancy back to the high street.

“Unveiling the second edition of ARTFORM alongside SPACEMRKT’s latest activation, the Hayside Gallery, was a fantastic opportunity for us to celebrate art in Subiaco.
The partnership with SPACEMRKT is a continuation of the City of Subiaco's investment in culture, arts and activation; and our ongoing promotion of the role that creativity plays in making Subiaco a community and a destination of choice.

David McMullen,
Mayor,
